This past weekend Dave and I took the kids and went to Prescott for the weekend. With Brynn in school, our vacation schedule is not as flexible as it has been, so we only went for the weekend. It started off pretty rough, since all the kids had some tummy bug and they had FIVE nasty diapers/accidents within 3 hours of getting there. Then no one slept well the first night, since we were all in one room and everyone was keeping each other up. Luckily the rest of the weekend went really well, and we ended up having a really good time.
On our second day there, we drove over to Jerome. It is an old mining town someone recommended we check out. To get there, we had to drive on small two-lane roads that wound all over the mountains. With the road right up against the edge of the mountains. With drop-offs so high you couldn't see the bottom of the mountains. And there were no guard rails. Not a good combo for me, but it was a gorgeous drive. When we got there, we drove around the town for awhile and then spent the rest of our time at the Gold King Mine and Ghost Town. Basically, we paid an admission fee to explore a huge dump. Seriously, most of it looked like some guy came in and bought up a junkyard and threw in a few animals and called it a tourist attraction. Dave wasn't too into it, but the kids definitely were. Collin loved running after the chickens, Brynn wanted to go inside every old building, and Eden was content going along for the ride in the Baby Bjorn with Dave. Me? Well, it was basically a photographer's dream. All that texture, rusty cars, old buildings--I could have stayed there even longer! Get ready for some serious picture overload!
Can you tell just how much Dave likes having his picture taken?
Luckily, I have this little girl, who is always my willing model...
Just before we left, one of the men who work there offered to let the kids feed the donkey. Brynn and Collin were pretty hesitant at first, so they watched the man feed it for awhile first. Then, they each took a few turns. Brynn later declared that to be one of her favorite parts of the weekend.
After leaving Jerome, we headed back to Prescott where we spent a few hours downtown. We had a yummy lunch and gelato at a fun little spot and then the kids had fun running around in the grass by the court house.
We also got to visit my Uncle Ferrell and Aunt Kim and their kids, who live in Prescott. We also met up with Kim and Ferrell for dinner. It was fun to be able to see their house again, and hang out with them.
I think Eden's favorite part of the trip was entertaining herself in the mirrored closet doors in our hotel room. Can't blame her though--watching her entertains us too!
As we drove home on Sunday, Dave and I decided that we needed to make sure to plan more fun little trips like that. So, now we have it in writing!
